stylish capable Subaru XV

The stylish, capable Subaru XV was named the 2017 AMI Insurance NZ Autocar magazine $30K-$45K class winner at an awards ceremony in Auckland on 23rd November 2017.

For Subaru New Zealand the accolade is welcomed as it acknowledges the Subaru XV as the technology-laden, safety-stacked package it provides for Kiwi drivers.

Each year, NZ Autocar magazine nominates vehicles from various areas of the market not based on size or vehicle type, but rather price categories. The Subaru XV was deemed most worthy of a class win from the cars in the $30K - $45K price bracket that the magazine’s editors tested over the past 12 months.

They were highly impressed with Subaru’s stunning compact SUV.

“Subaru’s XV excels in an increasingly popular segment by offering more substance than its competitors. Using Subaru’s latest platform technology, the XV offers a level of ride refinement and sure-footed handling that its rivals struggle to match. It’s also a safe option with a wide range of crash avoidance features and benefits from full-time AWD. Being practical and well specified, its pricing means there is sound value here too.”

Subaru of New Zealand Marketing Manager Daile Stephens says sales of the sharply-priced Subaru XV variants (2.0 Sport $34,990 and 2.0 Premium $39,990) swiftly doubled after the June launch.

“It is wonderful that NZ Autocar magazine has recognised the Subaru XV as the $30K-$45K class winner. We are thrilled with how well it has been received by New Zealanders and it is now our second highest selling model behind the Subaru Outback. Our striking XV certainly is in high demand,” Mrs Stephens says.

NZ Autocar also confirmed that the Subaru XV was an extremely close runner-up to the Volvo XC90 in the AMI Insurance Safety Award. The two vehicles were the only contenders considered for this award and the Subaru XV was rigourously tested at the IAG Research Centre in Sydney. The Centre’s Director of Research Initiatives Robert McDonald and his team showcased to a camera crew and media how they performed proactive safety tests on cars, in a Subaru XV.

Mrs Stephens says: “The Subaru XV has a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and it delivers safety in spades - with the latest and greatest tech features, like Subaru’s world-class EyeSight® Driver Assist system. In simple terms, it’s like having an extra pair of eyes to watch the road ahead.”

EyeSight on Subaru XV includes the new Lane Keep Assist feature, which can correct a driver’s unwitting drift into an adjoining lane. Also, in line with Subaru’s ever-increasing safety commitment, Reverse Automatic Braking is added to the new Subaru XV Premium ingredient list, together with High Beam Assist.

Combined with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which is standard across the entire Subaru range, the XV also has X-Mode, which improves driver control on rough roads, steep terrain and slippery surfaces through integrated control of the engine.

“The Subaru XV is such a great value SUV and really does provide confidence in motion, as drivers know they are in one of the safest cars on the road,” Mrs Stephens says.

“Subaru in New Zealand is fortunate to be experiencing such a high growth curve that our manufacturers in Japan have provided us with extra production allocation to support market demand in the coming months and beyond. That said, if you’ve been thinking about buying an XV we recommend placing a pre-order with your local Subaru Dealership to ensure the wait isn’t too long for the colour and specification you desire,” she adds.
