The Subaru Outback’s success in New Zealand since the launch of the 5th generation model 12 months ago has been unprecedented. The popular model has now been enhanced to have even greater appeal – the 2016 Outback is on sale at Subaru Authorised Dealerships nationwide.
Every automatic transmission Subaru Outback now has the award-winning EyeSight® driver assist system, with the addition of the innovative technology to Model Year 2016 diesel variants of the popular All-Wheel Drive wagon.
And in further proof of Subaru’s safety commitment, Vision Assist features are also added to Outback 2.5i Premium, 2.0D Premium and 3.6R variants, comprising:
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Lane Change Assist
- Auto dimming rear view mirror
- High Beam Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Detects passing vehicles when reversing from parking spaces
Another safety development is the addition of an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), which detects an emergency brake situation and flashes the hazard lights automatically, to warn following vehicles.
The front fog lights on every Outback variant now have integrated halogen Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) too.
Entry-level Outback 2.5i and 2.0D add electric folding door mirrors.
Outback 2.0D also gets automatic headlights and front windscreen wipers.
Outback 2.5i Premium, 2.0D Premium and 3.6R with factory fitted satellite navigation are also subject to the new Subaru Map Update Program. This includes the Latest Map Guarantee, ensuring the latest map version is installed before vehicle delivery. Also included is the Three Year Map Update Guarantee – a complimentary yearly map update during the program period, subject to the vehicle having its scheduled services performed through an Authorised Subaru Service Centre.
A new colour in the range is Dark Blue Pearl.
New generation Outback has proved a runaway success over the past 12 months, with best-ever sales since the original cross-over wagon launched in 1996.
The Subaru Outback was the absolute star of the show in 2015, smashing its previous sales figures out of the park, almost doubling the previous record in 2006 (591 sales) by achieving a phenomenal 1175 sales in 2015.
Subaru of New Zealand Managing Director Wallis Dumper said Outback’s accolades flooded in.
“Along with Subaru Legacy, Outback was among the top ten finalists in the 2015 New Zealand Car of the Year awards. Outback was also named the $45-$60k category winner in the AMI Insurance NZ Autocar Car of the Year 2015 award and Fairfax Media also selected it as the Top Crossover.
“Outback didn’t just get noticed in print circles - it was selected as the Radio Live Cars of the Year – 2015, Best Medium SUV and was named the 2015 Car of the Year by the Automotive News website.”
Mr Dumper adds: “With the strategic addition of EyeSight to our diesel variants, plus Vision Assist features in premium versions across the range, we can only see more growth opportunities for Outback.”
“The combination of amazing long-range cruising and EyeSight in Outback diesel makes it an irresistibly safe package in rural and regional areas.”
Subaru of New Zealand is proud of Outback’s continued success, Mr Dumper says.
“Who would have thought that this fantastic new SUV could surpass all our expectations for replacing New Zealand’s favourite wagon. The Legacy wagon is iconic in NZ and after decades of sales and happy customers, frankly it was a worry that the wagon was being discontinued.”
“This SUV drives like a car and given the realigned pricing in 2015, we knew any Legacy wagon customer who was satisfied with the drive would be elated with the price position.”
